Barça destroyed Atletico Madrid tonight with a superb display of attacking football. If in the last two games we had to wait until injury time to seal the three points, tonight the victory was
all but sewn up after just ten minutes. Marquez, Eto'o and Messi put Barça 3-0 in just eight minutes and by the half hour we were 5-1 up.
Games between these two clubs have a history of producing high scoring, incident packed games and tonight's clash was no exception. Leo Messi played a blinder and won the battle with Kun Agüero
hands down, but the performance of unsung players such as Eric Abidal and Eidur Gudjohnsen was just as pleasing to see.
Pep Guardiola made four changes to the team that started against Shakhtar. Abidal, Gudjohnsen, Busquets and...

Two late goals from substitute Leo Messi turned defeat into victory for Barça tonight in Ukraine. From a fan's point of view there is nothing much better than grabbing an injury time winner, so
to get two in a week is pretty special. However, the team did not play well and much of that has to go down to the unusual 3-5-2 formation that Pep Guardiola adopted for this game. Shakhtar
took the lead just before half time and in the second half Barça struggled to find a way through. It took a bit of luck in the 87th minute as the Shakhtar defence relaxed at a throw in, believing Barça should give the ball back, for Barça to equalize, and then a bit of pure class from
Messi for the late late...

With the last kick of the game Leo Messi scored a disputable penalty to give Barça victory in a dramatic derby game which will probably be the last played on Montjuic. Barça trailed for most of
the game after Coro put Espanyol ahead after the referee missed a foul on Victor Valdés. Then after a nine minute stoppage in the second half due to crowd trouble Thierry Henry equalized before
Eto'o was brought down from behind in the last minute of injury time to give Messi the chance to seal the three points.
Barça dominated the game from start to finish but only poor finishing and poor defending when Espanyol scored prevented a much easier victory. Espanyol were reduced to ten men just before half
time when Nene received a second yellow card when...

A goal from Eidur Gudjohnsen ten minutes from the end clinched a victory for Barça that had looked to be sewn up at half time. However, Barça
threw away a two-goal lead through some sloppy play which nearly cost us dearly. Hats off to Pep Guardiola for his substitutions which managed to change the dynamic of the game back in Barça's
favour when for a while it looked as though Betis might even sneak a win
Guardiola's surprise in team selection this week was to rest Carles Puyol and give a first start to Martin Caceres alongside Rafa Marquez in
the heart of defence. Toure Yaya returned to the team at the expense of Sergio...

Barça won their first league game of the season with a comfortable 1-6 win tonight in Gijon. Sporting were only briefly in the game after pulling a goal back early in the second half but their
hopes were dashed by the sending off of Gerard in the 56th minute. Two late goals from Leo Messi gave the scoreline an embarrassing appearance for
the home team.
Pep Guardiola chose Andres Iniesta to play on the left side of attack and the choice paid off as Iniesta capped a fine display with a goal and two assists. The big surprise in team selection
was the return of Sergio Busquets to the defensive midfield role and the youngster had another good game, suggesting we may see a fair bit more of him this season. Eric Abidal was...

Barça began the Champions League campaign with a well deserved 3-1 victory over Sporting Lisbon at Camp Nou tonight. Barça dominated from start to finish and today managed to convert three of
many chances created. Rafa Marquez scored first with a rare goal from a corner, Samuel Eto'o converted a penalty on the hour to make it 2-0,
Sporting then pulled a goal back through Tonel, but man-of-the-match Xavi Hernandez settled things a couple of minutes from the end.
Pep Guardiola had another surprise up his sleeve tonight by playing captain Carles Puyol at left back for what was his 400th official appearance for
Barça. Puyol showed his typical...

With just two games played in La Liga, Pep Guardiola will already be under pressure after Barça failed to beat a well organized Racing Santander at Camp Nou tonight. Barça dominated
possession but suffered to break through the Racing defence, and after Leo Messi gave Barça the lead from the penalty spot, Racing equalized with their first shot of the game with just
fifteen minutes remaining.
Pep Guardiola surprised everyone with his team selection giving starts to youngsters Sergio Busquets in the central midfield role and Pedro Gonzalez on the left, both players performed well and
showed they could have futures at the club. It was expected that Messi wouldn't start after arriving yesterday from a long journey, but alongside him on the bench were Iniesta and

Barça began the new league campaign with a horribly disappointing 1-0 defeat to newly promoted Numancia. Barça never recovered from an early
goal from Mario, and as we have seen so many times before, the team lacked patience in the build-up which led to wayward passes and fruitless dribbles. Numancia packed their defence leaving
little room for Barça's forwards and when the chances came we were guilty of poor finishing.
Barça started well enough and Leo Messi forced the first save of the game with a low drive from outside the area after two minutes, then in the tenth minute Samuel Eto'o volleyed over from
Iniesta's cross from the right. However, with Numancia's first real attack of the game they went ahead on 13 minutes:

Barça qualified for the group stage of the Champions League tonight but the alarm bells will be ringing after a poor performance which saw the first defeat for the team under Pep Guardiola. A
goal from Brazilian defender Cleber gave Wisla a 1-0 win on the night though Barça go through 4-1 on aggregate.
There were few problems for either goalkeeper early on, but Wisla had the better chances. On 12 minutes mistakes from Abidal and then Puyol led to a
shot from 25 yards from Diaz which went straight at Valdés. Then after 20 minutes Valdés made a mess of a Piqué backpass and ended up clearing straight to the feet of a Wisla forward who
chipped the ball back in only for the ball to drift wide of the far...

Football Club Barcelona took a giant step towards the next round of the Champions League with a 4-0 win over Wisla Krakow at Camp Nou tonight.
Samuel Eto'o who looked to be on his way out of the club scored twice and there were goals too from the excellent Xavi Hernandez and from an
improved Thierry Henry
Barça had to wait until the 14th minute for the first decent chance when Xavi's free kick found Henry unmarked but the Frenchman's header was well saved. Then Barça began to turn up
the rhythm. In the 18th minute Marquez dribbled out of defence before sending a great pass through to Eto'o as the defence looked for offside, Eto'o ran on to beat the keeper with a
left-footed shot into the...
